As has been explained, alternative UoM allows you to use another metric that will can be converted to your base UoM using the conversion factors you maintained. For your requirement, you can sell the item in GRAMS provided you maintained the conversion unit. If you sell the item always in GRAMS, set grams as your sales UoM.

Can anyone help me with the concept/ usage of Alternative UoM. I know that alternative unit of measure is maintained in material master in additional data. but i am unable to comprehend its usage.
Our requirement is for a material A having base UoM as kg is sold in a carton. Now material A is packed in bags of 5kg and then 10 of these bags are packed in a carton with total weight of 50kg.
What we want to understand is that in a sale order if we book 100kg of material A, system should automatically convert the qty and unit to 2 cartons
