Reply from fernandes_cassio on Dec 29 at 2:57 PM Hi Peter, I know it's been a year since you posted this issue, but I came across the same question. Did you get a chance to open an OSS Message to SAP? Have they replied? If you can, please share it here. Thanks in advance!

Thanks to all for your replies, and sorry for the double post as my initial one did not show up in my "posts" section even after an hour. I thought my HR staff was crazy and wasting lots of time for reviewing notes contained in SPs to make sure they were implemented fully because I had never heard of this practice before. I started working in Basis with consulting firms and now I have a position in the public sector where I work with a functional staff that I feel is at times less than functional (pun intended). I had approached them to see if this was common practice with HR modules but I could not get a straight answer
I don't think they know themselves. So, Snowy, thanks very much for your answer. Do you have any insight as to WHY some of these things must be done manually and are there any other modules that have similar issues? Eric, I did check SPAU/SPDD and found nothing. The note was not a fluke. If you pull it up and read it, it makes a correction for W-4 filing status where filing a status of 00 is only allowed in PA (01=Single, 02=Married, 00=I_Have_No_Idea). I think the SP made the correction for entering this data via SAPGUI (which implementing the individual note would have done), but the manual portion of the note makes it so that the option does not show up in ESS (employee self service in SAP's portal). ESS is a standard package delivered by SAP so I'm not sure why they wouldn't have the SP make the entry for us. We're not currently using SAP's ESS package but have plans to do so next year (starting specifically with W-4 update function), and had we not been planning to do so this might have been missed and caused some potentially big issues with payroll processing after ESS implementing. Now I have to wonder if the HR staff is going to have to go through the previous 50+ HR support packs to see if there is anything else ESS related before we decide to implement it. Very poor for SAP to work like this, IMO. Robin, I'm very familiar with the notes regarding the implementation of support packs/stacks, and for the most part they all deal with "what you need to do to prevent issues during the import". What is so odd is that if this is common with HR components, then one would think SAP would have a note regarding what things need to be done AFTER importing a particular support pack/stack for HR. I did some looking around, but the only thing close I found was SNote 1427797 (HRSP Information of ERP 6.00) which has some other notes listed in there, but nothing referring to the issue at hand. I did a search for the particular HR SP that this note was included in, but nothing of value came up. I think I might open a ticket regarding this
this is just very poor practice. Maybe they can explain why they do this sort of thing. I can understand not wanting to overwrite some customizing, but isn't that what SPAU/SPDD is for??? | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | _.____.__ |
