Reply from AnkitTiwari on Apr 17 at 1:13 AM Dear all, For Linux :- Both commands ps -ef | grep smon and ps -ef | grep pmon will show the instances running in your system. SMON is the system monitor process which takes care of all the system processess running in your system and PMON is the process monitor which takes care of the external process want to connect with the particular instances. In Windows :- Here you can see the instances by going to Start > administrative tools>services and you will find the OracleService<InstanceName> and count those instances if they are in running state.
