Reply from Doug_Henderson on Jun 21 at 9:20 PM Can you log into the destination database and execute the query locally on that db? If you can't do this, well nothing else is going to work properly. Make sure you can ping the remote machine: "ping remote-host" Make sure you can successfully execute "tnsping ora11" on the local machine. Make sure you can connect to the remote database from the local machine with sqlplus, e.g. sqlplus user/passwd@ora11 where 'user' is the userid you will be using in the db link. Check the DDL. "select * from all_db_links". "select * from all_objects where object_name = 'tab;' Make sure access to the destination table on the destination database is granted to the user, not through a role. Do the "select * from all_objects were object_name = 'tab'" on the destination database as well. examine all the result to see if they make sense. Try it with dual, e.g.: select sysdate from dual; select sysdate from dual@ora11; There are many more rare problems which can make a db link fail. Before we go there, make sure it is not something very basic.

I am able to tnsping that machine without any trouble, but when I try to make connection in SQL prompt using db link I am getting this error, SQL> select * from tab@ora11; select * from tab@ora11 * ERROR at line 1: ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found Both databases are running same version of Linux OS and same Oracle database version. Also I have observed * mark under tns alias in SQL command error, I couldnt able find out what would be a reason. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. venky Aduri | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | _.____.__ |
